New York, NY (October 5, 2012) – Topside Press has today announced that the indie press has acquired the domestic and international publication rights for Ready, Amy, Fire, a satirical novel from stand-up comedian, YouTube sensation and underground zinester Red Durkin, to be published in Summer 2013.

Ready, Amy, Fire is the story of 20-year-old transgender man Hans Tronsmon and what happens when his happily-married gay dads decide that they can no longer pay for his plush off-campus apartment. Durkin’s novel pokes fun at the worlds of college, part-time jobs and queer activism while offering the reader enlightenment through comedy.

Although Ready, Amy, Fire will be her first novel, Durkin’s short fiction has already built a strong following. “A Roman Incident,” published in the first Topside Press title, The Collection, has already attracted attention from media such as, where it proclaimed that “A Roman Incident” was “worth the price of the book alone.” Durkin will be speaking at Barnard College on October 18 as part of a panel on the future of trans women’s literature.

About the Author
Durkin has toured the US as a comedian since 2003, as part of the critically-acclaimed Tranny Roadshow, and has performed at Camp Trans as well as other national transgender events. Her nine zines, including While I Was Smoking and Red Is Dead, have sold thousands of copies and are archived in zine libraries around the country. Ready, Amy Fire is her first book.
